Seven Wonders Book 1 The Colossus Rises Peter Lerangis Torstein Norstrand Mike Reagan 9780062070401 Books

Upon completion of this book, my daughter asked if I would buy the next one in the series. That right there, tells me she liked it. I did have to push her a bit to continue reading it because she said it was sort of boring at first, but thanks to me she soon found it to be super interesting and fun.

Like most kids, she loved the adventure and scary stuff the most. It's not like Harry Potter (which she consumed voraciously and loved....me too!), but it was a great read nonetheless. I try hard to find her other books than the HP series to read to continue to stimulate her imagination and to let her understand that HP is not the only adventure, magical, scary, mysterious kids stories out there.

I will most likely be buying the entire series of books, one at a time since once hooked on a good story, she begs me for more of them. Great for late elementary to middle school aged readers.

Seven Wonders Book 1 The Colossus Rises Peter Lerangis Torstein Norstrand Mike Reagan 9780062070401 Books Reviews

I read and listened to this book on my which may account for some of the comments I make below.

This is the story of Jack McKinley and some others kids who find out that they the descendants of Atlantians and are all about to die, oh but they all get superpowers before they kill over. It may not sound like it, but I liked this book. It’s very middle grade and sometimes annoying, but overall quite entertaining. When I first heard of this new series it was compared to the Percy Jackson series, but I don’t think that is a good comparison. I think this story is something a little different.

The only character I really fell in love with in this first book, I haven’t read the others yet, is Jack. Not that the other characters weren’t likable, but Jack was the only one who seemed to be in touch with reality. He seemed accessible to me beyond this world of mythology and magic in a way none of the other characters were.

While this story is very clever and full of action, is lacks sophistication and with good reason. This is a story about kids battling against the world to save their lives. These are not hormonal teens, yet, caught up in adult activities, but kids just trying to get through the day. I like that there is a real sense of innocence to this story that many middle grade and YA story just don’t have.
The mysteries, the history, and all the clues of this story were really cool. Some things were a discovery for me while quite a few were not. It didn’t take me long to figure out what was happening each time a new problem arose, but I will admit there were some turns I didn’t see coming.

The descriptions in this story and the world building were pretty good, but sometimes I had trouble figuring out which literal direction things were happening in. On the plus side, I thought the illustration were a nice added touch. Throughout the book there is tons of humor to lighten a mood when needed.

I’d recommend this book to anyone who enjoys mythology, history, and is willing to read middle grade fiction. The kids should really enjoy it.
My son loves this series. The reason why I docked a star is bcs the paperbacks, ordered new, came a bit beat up. That's s fault, not the writer, but if you plan to give as a present, I suggest hardback.
Amazing series by Peter Lerangis. The first book in this series does a wonderful job of grabbing the attention of reluctant readers. My 4th grade students fell in love with this series. I suddenly had students that had been avoiding chapters books all year begging to read this book next.
I read this book as part of a reading effort at the Middle School where I work. I was very impressed with this book. About 1/2 way through book 1, I knew that I was going to have to read the series. This is a well written Young Adult book and series.
I've read the whole series of the 7 Wonders, and I could not stop. I really enjoyed this series, even if I found the action a little too much "back to back" with no pause to meet the characters well. For sure, a not stop action without pause. The first book starts the series and leave you ready for the rest that follow. If you are ready to really spend some time reading, go for it!
I strated this series because it kept popping up on my recommend list and so I decided to try it. It was what I expected most of the time with a young kid and his group of friends going out on an epic quest and defying the adults at every turn. Not that I didn't enjoy it I did and it had several moments that I didn't expect. I like the characters Cass especially although Marco is eh... Never really cared for the jock type. So basically if you're reading this trying to decide if it's worth reading go ahead and do it.
I got this book for my little 12-year old brother and he loved it. The day I gave it to him, he read it and finished it within a few hours. Then, he proceeded to ask my mom to take him to the library to get the other books. Now, he is all caught up and waiting for the next book to release. I would recommend this book for middle grade students and maybe mature elementary age kids (I wasn't too interested because it was aimed toward 12-13 year olds and I'm in high school.)
My son got this book fro Christmas, he has been devouring it. Can't stop reading it. Continues to come out and read me passages that he finds humorous or suspenseful. We had run out of Riordan books (my son has read them all, at least twice!), so happy to have found another author he enjoys.
Upon completion of this book, my daughter asked if I would buy the next one in the series. That right there, tells me she liked it. I did have to push her a bit to continue reading it because she said it was sort of boring at first, but thanks to me she soon found it to be super interesting and fun.
