This is Max and Payton's book (#3). Max was an Army Ranger and an interrogator, one of the best, who now works at Free with the rest of his former black ops unit. His sister, Ember, is married to Gabe (#2), brother to Cheyenne, who is Sam's wife from (#1), and Sam was the unit's commander. The heroine, Payton, went to nursing school with Cheyenne and they end up working together on the maternity floor of the local hospital. Early in the book, Max is recalled to active duty because his interrogation skills are needed. He makes an enemy during this time and there is trouble from this throughout the book. Payton is recovering from a vicious and brutal assault about 18 months before in which her then-boyfriend ran off and left her to the mercy of the two assailants. She is suffering from untreated PTSD. This book expands our character base with Payton's family and a few more clues in the ongoing mystery of Sam's outlaw biker father. I just loved the dynamics between each of the couples and among them all as friends. They are truly one big family who look out for each other. The kind of life I would love to be a part of.I haven't said anything about the technical issues of these books, such as typos or word tenses, etc...in any review because I get irritated by reviewers who nitpick this stuff at the cost of a really excellent story. I don't read for technical satisfaction, it's all about escaping my reality for someone else's for a little while. I feel like those critics are frustrated wannabe writers who tear down others' work yet haven't the guts to write their own. How can you enjoy a book if you're busy finding everything wrong with it, including whether it's "real" or "possible"! Sorry for the rant, but I've read a lot of those type comments lately and felt the need to speak up. Thank you Lani Lynn Vale for another excellent book. I'm on to #4 right now!

Another One Bites the Dust Freebirds Book 3 edition by Lani Lynn Vale Romance eBooks Reviews
This is the third book in the Freebird series. I do recommend that you read them in order, just so you can see how the characters change from book to book and see the other relationships. You don't have to though, each book is about a different couple. Lani Lynn Vale has turned into one of my go to authors when I need a good laugh and maybe some tears. This one came close to making me cry. The scene with Max deploying did get to me. But I just had to say my "see you later" to my husband a couple months ago. She nailed that scene. Wives and significant others trying to fight their tears so the other doesn't see it and make it harder than it already is, for them to leave. I've held my tears back many times, until he couldn't see them, while his ship was pulling out. So that scene hit home for me.
Max was injuried and he got out of the Rangers, but he healed up just fine. Now he finds himself being recalled, he doesn't know for how long and what for....yet. But the timing couldn't be worse. Payton is finally ready for something with him.
The helicopter scene had me worried, especially what happened to Max and his memory.
Payton is a tiny thing. She's a nurse with Cheyenne. That's how she met Ember, and then the guys and Max. She was attacked awhile ago and is suffering from some PTSD. Max does help her through all of it though. I love all these characters.
The shoelace scene is so something my brother and I would do to eachother. I was laughing so hard at it.
I read these series out of order, I know this is the first series, but have read the others first. So I've already read Bennett's, Payton's younger brother, story. But to see it during her book was great. It was awesome seeing a younger Bennett. We also see some of Sebastian's past. With his accident. It is totally fine that I haven't read all the series in order.
I love Payton and I love Max, so them getting together is perfect. I love that this story has tons of funny and crazy parts (Payton puking while in between Sam and Cheyenne, (spoiler) their crazy wedding) but it also has some scary and heart wrenching incidents too! You also learn more about the pasts of Payton and Max and it's so heartbreaking to read about what happened to them and so you can’t help but root for Payton when she gets Alpha! I love learning more about Freebirds and all they do for women! I also super appreciate who much Lani Lynn Vale writes and how quickly and that they are all super amazing and different! I love these stories and love the different and hilarious personalities in the stories that makes you want to read the story over and over again.

Max and Payton's story was one that I enjoyed. Max fell for the little firecracker that is Payton and knew that he was going to have to take things slow with her, so he doesn't scare her away. He knows that something happened to her to make her the way that she is, and he wants to be the one that helps her become strong again. Then when he is having to leave right when he was getting his chance with her, he knows that he will return to her. Payton is surprised when she is shown that even being a world apart Max is still going to make sure that she is taken care of when she is given a service dog. Upon Max's return there is things that begin to happen that can be the end of them before they are even able start their life together. It is the strength of their love that makes it so that they are able to bet the odds against them.
This one just like the previous two in this series is a good combination of humor and seriousness. It is this combination that I can say keeps be coming back for more.
