For centuries the fate of the real Maltese Falcon remained a mystery...until now.
The Falcon...death is at the heart of it, death and the blood of its victims. Its fabulous wealth has lured greedy prey across the centuries. Chicago P.I. Joe Ganzer, a haunted former WWII espionage agent, gets trapped in this fowler's net by a mysterious Russian beauty trying to locate her uncle, a former Soviet general. Her story doesn't add up but her money does. And an old pal circling the drain needs Joe's help to get him out of a treacherous jam that may claim both their lives. Dark days are about to descend on Joe Ganzer. He will run a gauntlet of Cold War spies, Nazis, stolen booze, stolen art, and at the end of it all is the Falcon of Malta...the stuff nightmares are made of.
What they are saying--
"The characters you meet in this story are fun, and the villains are dastardly. But the real shocker is how the Maltese Falcon surfaces. That's all I can say without spoiling it."
Return of the Falcon edition by Don Satalic Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks
This is a book set in the 1940s, but has a more of a modern feel to it. The characters are descriptive and distinct, from a likeable Joe Ganzer to the villain Kemidov. Carefully woven throughout the story is a case that Ganzer undertakes for an ex-con, working hard on going straight, but is being set up by a mob in Chicago. There is some romantic tension between Ganzer and his new blonde client, who is not what she appears to be. The book has a different feel than Dashiell Hammett's "The Maltese Falcon" and portrays the private investigator as more human and with less cliches. It was fast paced, full of action and adventure. All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.Product details

Return of the Falcon edition by Don Satalic Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
You don't have to read "The Maltese Falcon" or see the movie to enjoy this book, but it will enhance the experience. I read Hammett's book years ago. This thriller, however, is quite different, better in some ways and not as good in others. The pacing is much faster in "Return of the Falcon" and the violence is greater. I like this hero, Joe Ganzer, almost as much as Sam Spade. Joe is more realistic. I really liked Joe's employees(who are also his friends), which Spade didn't have. I think the author tried to make a different type of detective-hero. This is a great sequel.
The story starts out in Chicago. Joe Ganzer is a private eye with a past. He was an espionage agent with the OSS during the WWII (the forerunner of the CIA) and something happened to him. We never know quite what, but it almost prevents him from taking the case of a beautiful Russian woman who wants him to find her uncle, who is (or was) a Russian general in the war. Her uncle's gone missing. That starts all the action. After that, Joe Ganzer is on a roller coaster ride. The characters you meet in this story are fun and the villains are dastardly. But the real shocker is how the Maltese Falcon surfaces. That's all I can say without spoiling it. I laughed, I cried, I loved it.
Some thrillers, especially those set on an international scale, tend to build up to the suspense after an inordinate amount of time which can 'bleed' some of the thrill from the overall story. This isn't the case with Return of the Falcon as the reader is almost immediately dropped into the intrigue involving one of the more realistic private detectives (with military training to boot) I've read about in a while. I'm a history buff and loved the fact that the story takes place at the birth of the Cold War which the author was able to recreate, almost flawlessly, the atmosphere of fear and suspicious undertones of the time. The overall story had kept me interested to the end but the plot twists make me want to re-read the book to see if I missed something (which can be good or bad depending on how you look at it). The bottom line for less than the price of a magazine you can't go wrong picking up this eBook.
